早稲田大学 国際教養学部 AO入試 志望理由書 提出例(佐渡島 紗織 教授参考)

Dear Admission Office,

To begin with, I would like to thank for the opportunity and in this letter I will do my best to explain my interest in applying for School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, hoping to pursue a major in International Culture and Expression Studies later in my academic years. I would be more than grateful if you could kindly give it a read and grant me an admission. During the in-person interview, I would also be delighted to expand more on my area of studies and what I wish to achieve with liberal studies curriculum including study abroad program.

Since blogging and digital writing was introduced, landscape and prestige of writing has changed drastically. Historically, the uses of writing reflect a host of religious, political, and social factors and hence two dimensions of the script are important in understanding the growth of literacy: learnability and expressive power. Learnability refers to the ease with which the script can be acquired, and expressive power refers to the script’s resources for unambiguously expressing the full range of meanings available in the oral language. These two dimensions are inversely related to each other. The lines between expressing blogging, business writing, professional writing and academic writing are blurred but what are the differences and what are the best practices in which we express ourselves?

One of the biggest differences is that academic writing is done mostly to showcase your research and expertise in a specific area or topic of interest, while professional writing is often done to influence or convince someone of something. Schools, colleges and universities exist to share knowledge and to help students do the same. The writing that students produce in academic settings can best be described as “writing to demonstrate what you have learned.” In the business world, on the other hand, we write to share information, to solve problems, to propose new strategies, to negotiate contracts, to report progress to stakeholders, basically to get a message across.

Many may be completely indifferent to this matter, but I feel the strong need to truly appreciate the history of writing and expression especially because we live in a world of instant connectivity. Whether in academic or professional world, everyone is in essence a publisher, and the quality of your content often comes across as the single most important impression that readers have of you or your business – your reputation. I plan to study international culture and expression studies to unlock different pockets of education that would help us find an area in which we can locate a job opportunity. And in order for me to attain high-level education and equip myself with what is needed to survive the next decades of globalization and competition, it is extremely important for me to take part in the study abroad program that would allow me to transfer to a school progressive in the field. Very excited to learn and study among like-minded students at Waseda where liberal studies is offered. Thank you very much for reading and I am very much looking forward to hearing good news.

Thank you,
